User Guide

Getting Started

  1. Create an Account

    Sign up with your email address and create a strong password (minimum 8 characters).

  2. Save Your Recovery Phrase

    After signing up, you'll receive a 12-word recovery phrase. Write this down and store it safely! This is the ONLY way to recover your account if you forget your password. We cannot recover it for you.

  3. Verify Your Email

    Check your inbox for a verification email and click the link to activate your account.

Uploading Files

  1. Click "New" Button

    In the top-left of the sidebar, click the "New" button to see upload options.

  2. Choose Files or Folders

    Select "Upload files" to upload individual files, or "Upload folder" to upload an entire folder.

  3. Drag and Drop

    You can also drag files directly from your computer and drop them into the main area.

Tip: Your files are automatically encrypted before being stored. Only you can access them.

Organizing Files

  1. Create Folders

    Click "New" then "New folder" to create a folder. Give it a name and press Enter.

  2. Move Files

    Drag any file or folder and drop it onto another folder to move it inside.

  3. Navigate

    Double-click folders to open them. Use the breadcrumb trail at the top to go back.

Sharing Files

  1. Share a File or Folder

    Hover over any item and click the share icon, or right-click and select "Share".

  2. Copy the Link

    A shareable link will be generated. Anyone with this link can download the file.

  3. Stop Sharing

    Shared items show a blue badge. Click it or go to Share settings to stop sharing anytime.

Note: Shared files are decrypted for download. Only share links with people you trust.

Downloading Files

  1. Double-Click to Open

    Double-click any file to view it (images, PDFs, text) or download it.

  2. Download Button

    Hover over a file and click the download icon to save it to your computer.

  3. Download Folders

    Click the download icon on any folder to download it as a ZIP file.

Account Recovery

  1. Forgot Password?

    Click "Forgot password?" on the login page and enter your email. We'll send a reset link.

  2. Lost Access?

    If you can't access your email, use your 12-word recovery phrase at the "Recover Account" page.

Important: If you lose both your password AND your recovery phrase, your account cannot be recovered. Your data is encrypted and we have no way to access it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why only 1GB of free storage?

Unlike big tech companies, we don't harvest your data or show you ads. Storage costs real money to maintain, and we believe in being honest about that. 1GB of genuinely private, encrypted storage is more valuable than 15GB of storage where your files are scanned and monetized.

We may offer paid plans for more storage in the future, but we'll never compromise on privacy to offer "free" storage.

Is my data really private?

Yes, absolutely. Your files are encrypted on your device before they ever leave your computer. We use military-grade AES-256-GCM encryption. The encryption keys are derived from your account, meaning:

  • We cannot read your files
  • We cannot hand over your data to anyone (because we can't access it)
  • Even if our servers were breached, your files remain encrypted and useless to attackers

Can HyperCloud access my files?

No. This is by design, not just policy. Your files are encrypted before upload with keys that only you control. We physically cannot decrypt your data. This is fundamentally different from services that "promise" not to look at your files but technically could.

What happens if I forget my password?

You can reset your password via email, or use your 12-word recovery phrase. However, if you lose BOTH your password AND your recovery phrase, your account and all its data are permanently inaccessible. We cannot help you recover it because we don't have access to your encryption keys.

Can my files be censored or taken down?

HyperCloud uses decentralized storage technology. Your encrypted files are distributed across a global network, not stored on a single server that can be easily censored or shut down. As long as you have your account credentials, you can access your files.

What file types can I upload?

You can upload almost any file type including documents, images, videos, audio, and archives. For security reasons, we block executable files (.exe, .bat, .sh, etc.) and other potentially dangerous file types that could harm users if shared.

Is there a file size limit?

Individual files can be up to 100MB. Your total storage is limited by your plan (1GB for free accounts). Large files may take longer to upload and download due to encryption processing.

How is HyperCloud different from Google Drive or Dropbox?

The key differences:

  • True encryption: Your files are encrypted before upload. Google and Dropbox can read your files.
  • No data harvesting: We don't scan your files for advertising or AI training.
  • Decentralized storage: Your files aren't on a single company's servers that can be subpoenaed or hacked.
  • You own your data: We can't lock you out or delete your files arbitrarily.

What does "decentralized" mean?

Instead of storing your files on one company's servers, HyperCloud distributes your encrypted files across a global network of independent nodes. This makes your data resistant to censorship, server failures, and single points of attack.

Is HyperCloud open source?

We're working towards making parts of HyperCloud open source so anyone can verify our security claims. Transparency is important to us.
